The Speckled Band by Arthur Conan Doyle, 1892 (Original Story)
In class we watched a 1984 version adapted for British television for a series called The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. This is available at the public library (The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes), and on Hulu Plus or Netflix (a membership is required for the last two options). You can also find it on YouTube here. If you were absent, you can watch this on your own, come in and watch it after school, or simply read the story (linked above).
HOMEWORK: Complete your Detective Character Brainstorm in your packet on page 10. Pages 1-10 in your packet should now be complete. Pages 7-8 and page 10 will be stamped on Friday. PLEASE BRING HEADPHONES TO CLASS ON FRIDAY!

Today we read the story The Bloodstained Pavement by Agatha Christie (SEE MS. SCHULTZ OF A COPY).
HOMEWORK: Read/watch/listen to TWO more stories on your own and fill out PAGE 14 in your packet. Due WEDNESDAY!

Today we watched Murder, She Wrote: Unfinished Business (season 3, episode 3). The show and the main character was inspired by Agatha Christie.
Absent? You can watch this episode with Ms. Schultz after school, it is available on Netflix, and at Clackamas County Public Libraries.
HOMEWORK: Complete pages 18-19 in your packet, due Friday.
DAY FIVE MATERIALS (Friday)
Day 5 Slides
Today we watched the first 50 minutes of The Maltese Falcon (1941), based on the novel by Dashiell Hammitt. From the genre of Noir fiction, this is a classic private detective mystery from the noir era.
Absent? You can watch this film with Ms. Schultz after school, it is available at Blockbuster.com or Amazon Instand Video (for $2.99), and at Clackamas County Public Libraries. If you have Comcast Cable, it also appears to be available "On Demand"
